2006 World Champion Nicky Hayden will return to the MotoGP starting grid Aug. 31 at the Grand Prix of San Marino after missing a race due to a heel injury.
Hayden, from Owensboro, Ky., will return to the Repsol Honda Team Honda/Michelin machine at the Misano circuit Aug. 29-31. He missed the Grand Prix of the Czech Republic on Aug. 17 at Automotodrom Brno after injuring his right heel Aug. 1 while competing in the Supermoto event at the X Games in Los Angeles.
"I'm certainly excited to be getting back out there with the boys, because I hated missing Brno," Hayden said. "I've been doing all the old 'voodoo' stuff they tell you to do: bone stimulators, lasers, ultrasound, all that stuff. I'm doing everything possible to get back."
The Grand Prix of San Marino is the last MotoGP event before the inaugural Red Bull Indianapolis GP on Sept. 12-14 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Hayden will be one of four Americans on the MotoGP grid at Indianapolis, joined by Colin Edwards, John Hopkins and Ben Spies.
