'Kick Start Celebration' Welcomes MotoGP Fans To Indianapolis

A variety of Indianapolis dignitaries, including Mayor Greg Ballard and IMS President and COO Joie Chitwood, welcomed MotoGP fans to Indianapolis during the Kick Start Celebration on Sept. 9 at Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis.

Indianapolis civic and government dignitaries ceremonially rolled out the welcome mat to MotoGP fans from around the world with the "Indy Kick Start Celebration" on Sept. 9 in downtown Indianapolis.

Hundreds of Indianapolis residents and visiting motorcycle racing fans in town for the inaugural Red Bull Indianapolis GP crowded into Monument Circle in the heart of downtown Indianapolis as city leaders outlined the many exciting events that will take place in Indianapolis leading up to the first MotoGP World Championship event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Taking part were Indianapolis dignitaries Mayor Greg Ballard, IMS President and Chief Operating Officer Joie Chitwood, Indianapolis Downtown, Inc. President Tamara Zahn and Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association Director of Public Relations and Communications Bob Schultz.

Hundreds of motorcycle riders, led by Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup riders who will compete this weekend at IMS, rode onto Monument Circle to signal the beginning of the Indy Kick Start Celebration. Ballard and other participants outlined some of the special events that will take place from Thursday, Sept. 11 through Red Bull Indianapolis GP Race Day, Sunday, Sept. 14, including:

Red Bull Indianapolis GPreview Thursday, Sept. 11 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, featuring MotoGP rider question-and-answer sessions, pit walkabout for Race Day ticket holders and a concert featuring MotoGP rider James Toseland and members of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

Red Bull Broad Ripple Street Party, Thursday evening, Sept. 11, Indianapolis.

XDL Sportbike Freestyle Championship Round 4, Friday evening, Sept. 12, North Street between Pennsylvania and Meridian Street, downtown Indianapolis.

Motorcycles on Meridian, Friday and Saturday evenings, Sept. 12-13, "see and be seen" atmosphere, Meridian Street south of Maryland Street to South Street, downtown Indianapolis.

Lucas Oil Indy Mile AMA Flat Track Grand National, Saturday, Sept. 13 at Indiana State Fairgrounds, Indianapolis.

The inaugural Red Bull Indianapolis GP will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, with three junior class races preceding it that day. There will also be full days of track activity on the 2.621-mile IMS road course featuring practice and qualifying, respectively, on Sept. 12 and 13.

Three-day tickets can be purchased either online at www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com at any time; on the phone by calling (800) 822-INDY outside the Indianapolis area or (317) 492-6700 locally between 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday; or visiting the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Ticket Office on the first floor of the IMS Administration Building at 4790 W. 16th St. in Indianapolis from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Single-day general admission tickets will be available at the gate Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13. The one-day tickets are $10 each Friday and $20 each Saturday. These tickets only can be purchased at the gates with cash.
