·After recovering from two broken ankles, became the youngest 250cc World Champion, at age 19, on the strength of seven victories and 13 podiums in 16 races … Also became the youngest rider in history to win his debut 250cc race, at South Africa.
2003
·Won the 125cc World Championship at age 18 with Repsol Honda, earning five victories in 14 races … Secured the championship at Malaysia - two Grands Prix before the end of the season - then broke both ankles in a practice crash one week later at the Australian Grand Prix.
2002
·Finished third in the 125cc World Championship for Repsol Honda, securing nine podium finishes and victories at Netherlands, Japan and Valencia.
